Description for Kalanchoe White Plant

Kalanchoe is known as a flowering plant, it has characteristics of the delicate mass of flowers, in colors varying from orange, red and pink. They belong to the family of Crassulaceae and are mostly shrubs or perennial herbaceous plants and are known to originate from tropical Africa and Madagascar. These flowers are widely grown for indoor decorations on pots and they bring a warm hue even during severe cold climate. They last for several months and are purchased for the bright variety of colors the flowers produce. Succulent in nature, these plants grow till 3 to 5 feet as the flower stalk reaches up to a height of 28 inches. Their leaves are thick and have a wax coating with kind of scalloped edges. If carefully planted in the garden, they would produce lush green foliage and look beautiful to an onlooker.

These plants are mainly popular as houseplants and require a distinctly low amount of water during their growth time. They can be grown around the year, producing somewhat star-like flowers, about ½ inches in breadth. A most popular name of one of the varieties of this species is hens-and-chickens. Planting and Care

Planting of Christmas tree needs some plan. One has to make sure that the root ball of the plant is intact and typically the root is covered by a piece of burlap.

A handsome amount of light is preferable for the healthy growth of Kalanchoe, and it might look unhealthy or soggy if constantly kept under the inadequate light. These flowers thrive best in a warm and sunny area, preferably partial shade as well so that the leaves do not end up burnt.

The soil should be well aerated, with approximately 60% peat moss and 40% perlite.

After watering the drainage tray should be emptied as excess water can make the leaves look limp. The containers should have holes since the plant is succulent by nature. Watering should be done in calculated intervals and within that, the plant should be left to dry for a bit.

45-60 during the night and 50-70 at daytime

Fertilizer should be used only once a month, like a 20-20-20 balanced, organic fertilizer. Compost should be applied every spring along with a measured amount of liquid fertilizer.

Caring for Kalanchoe

They need to be potted in sterile containers and need regular stem cutting during spring or early summer. Extra attention should also be given to pest attacks especially if the plants are kept indoors. If the soil is remaining wet, root rot might be a recurrent problem. Air circulation would further eliminate chances of powdery mildew apart from other remedies like the application of potassium bicarbonate and Bonide Remedy. Pruning the dead flower stalks is also advisable to expect a full bloom.
