Description for Ponytail Palm, Beaucarnea Recurvata

Ponytail Palm is considered a popular houseplant as its physical appearance and low maintenance make it the first choice for indoor decoration. The plant consists of a swollen and round trunk, with long and evergreen leaves jutting out of it like a ponytail. They can be kept at a preferred height by frequent trimming which also helps to preserve the lush look of the plant. These plants belong to the Asparagus family and are also known by the names Elephant foot tree and Bottle Palm.

The trunk is usually meant for storing quantities of water for them to withstand drought and other dry conditions. An adequate amount of light and watering helps the plant to maintain the swelling of the trunk which somewhat takes the shape of a bulb. If planted indoor, their leaves can grow till a height of 3 feet and if they are planted in the garden, the number gets doubled. The plants are considered a native to Eastern Mexico, with a recorded height of 30 feet.
